Follow a narrow corridor to metal doors that part with motion sensor technology to introduce you to a dining room filled with large tables and chairs at the Alinea Restaurant in Chicago.  Be prepared to spend a good amount of time (no less than two hours) and a pretty penny (at least $75 per plate), but also expect an unforgettable experience.

Diners progress through a multi-course meal (eight courses for $75 last about 2-1/2 hours, 12 courses for $110 last about three hours, and 28 courses for $175 last nearly 5-1/2 hours).  At the Alinea Restaurant, that can be paired with a world-class wine list (try a glass, half-glass, or tasting with each course).

Be ready for treats and eats popping up through the meal at the Alinea Restaurant in Chicago, such as coffee, truffles, and pudding in hearts of palm.  Dehydrated coconut is wrapped in carrot juice gelee and served with Maine lobster topped with eggplant mousse.  Black licorice is shaved at the tableside on watermelon, and the air is scented with cinnamon smoking on a hot rock.  This provides a relaxing background which readies your appetite for bison garnished with beets and blueberries.

Though the setting is formal and jackets are recommended, you won’t find yourself uncomfortable, and you’ll never want the experience to end as you work your way through the courses.  Located in the theatre district and offering valet parking (street parking can be found as well), and quiet, fine dining, the pricey Alinea Restaurant in Chicago is worth every penny.
