The Excalibur Night Club in Chicago boasts quite a past, but has been transformed into an establishment that can be expected to last far into the future. A converted church, this castle-like building was also a morgue and housed the Chicago Historical Society. All this history adds to the gothic element that is lightened a bit by disco balls and the gyrating, sweaty bodies on the dance floors. Set up like three clubs in one, there are a main floor and billiards area open nightly, with a three-story dance club above that is open only Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The main floor, Cabaret, is candle-lit, and you’ll hear DJ’s spin retro tunes here, or in the lounge next door. If you’re looking for heavier dance theme, upstairs in Club X you’ll find strobe lights and hot beats with techno and hip-hop. If you prefer, head to the billiards room, and shoot pool (the tables are tiger print) or order from the kitchen.
The house specialties at the Excalibur Night Club of Chicago are martinis like the lemon drop (Absolut Citron, triple sec, and lime juice) or the Double Vision (Bacardi orange, triple sec, and orange juice, rimmed with sugar). If you want to impress your friends, rent out the VIP room in Club X. If you have too many friends, for that, the entire club can be rented out for a crowd of 3,000 of your closest pals. Wednesdays bring in live band karaoke (Durty Lounge Lizards), and Thursday offers dance lessons and a hot meringue/salsa theme. Don’t dress sloppy and expect to be let in; baggy pants, T-shirts, even sneakers are a no-go. Parking is available on the street or by valet. If you’re looking to spend a late night out and have a lot of fun, the Excalibur Night Club in Chicago has something for everyone. |
