Roys Restaurant in Chicago is a Hawaiian themed restaurant which offers exotic flavors without the stereotypical leis and over-the-top decor of many such places. This restaurant is a classy creation run by Yamaguchi, a very well respected chef who can work miracles with his spices. Portions are large and pleasing, and the restaurant definitely has a foreign feel with menu items having authentic names a mile long that are hard to pronounce. Start with the canoe as an appetizer, which samples the Szechuan ribs, coconut shrimp, and tuna tartare. The signature dish is the blackened ahi (tuna seared in butter and served in soy-mustard butter and slowly becoming spicier as you eat). If you're lunching at Roys Restaurant and want something more mellow, try the whitefish crusted with macadamia nuts. Or, if you can’t decide, order a mixed plate, a dish containing smaller portions of two entrees for about the same price as the single plate. Save room for dessert, as the chocolate soufflé comes highly recommended, made fresh, fluffy, and filled with molten chocolate.
At Roys Restaurant in Chicago, try a Hawaiian original – poi – with a twist; Yamaguchi uses the taro root paste to accent the honey-mustard beef short ribs (served with mashed potatoes). If you are looking for something different to drink at Roys Restaurant in Chicago, you may also want to try the saki sampler, with four flavors, “Wind”, “Sky”, “Rain” (with a hint of ginger), and “Snow” (sweet with coconut). The sampler is a great deal, at only $10.95. For something more traditional, take a look at the notable wine list. Parking is available at a pay lot or by valet. If you’re looking for an exotic taste of the east islands, Roys Restaurant in Chicago is a must. |
