The Spring Restaurant in Chicago is the former location of the North Avenue Bathhouse.  With a Zen garden and subdued decor of tan and beige, the space is guaranteed to be soothing to the soul.  The food comes in a wide range of flavor and origin.  You can also opt for the five-course tasting menu for $65 (or $100 if you wish to include wine progression).  If you are looking to spend a little less and have a more casual experience at the Spring Restaurant, try the bar – order from the special bar-only menu available.  Start with the summer asparagus salad, drizzled with buttermilk dressing, and follow up with a dish of halibut, complimented by mashed potatoes enhanced with lobster meat.  Finish off with honeydew sorbet in chilled plum soup for dessert.  Are you hungry for something more of the Asian persuasion?  Chef Shawn McClain’s creation of lemongrass and coconut soup with red curry will spice up your appetite, or you may opt for the charred beef tenderloin, served sliced with soba noodles and baby bok choy.

Be aware that at Spring Restaurant in Chicago, reservations on the weekends book up fast, and you should call two to three weeks in advance to assure yourself a seat.  Weekday reservations require a few days’ notice.  Online reservations are available.  Parking can be found on the street or by valet.

Note that voices and noise echo off the brick wall interior, so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, try coming early.  In short, the Spring Restaurant in Chicago offers a fine dining experience no matter what type of meal appeals to your taste buds.
