Chef/partners Rick Tramanto and Gale Gand create art with their fabulous French recipes at the Tru Restaurant in Chicago. With the look of an art gallery (containing Contemporary art that includes an original Warhol on white walls), the restaurant is a pricey but interesting place to dine. Dishes are served on marble tiles and fine china, and the wait staff is clad in designer suits and practiced in simply exchanging empty plates for those full of the next choice.
At the Tru Restaurant in Chicago, try the caviar, served on a glass staircase, or a soup in a Versace cappuccino cup. Favorites are the venison loin served with creamed corn, grit cake, and venison jus, or the torchon of foie gras with peppered pineapple relish. For dessert, you can expect Gand to create a masterpiece, such as the quince ice cream float with sour cherries or a chocolate pot de creme. Or, you may simply settle for mignardises or the house-made lollipops. Several options exist for the multi-course meals offered, but have your wallet ready whatever you choose. A three-course meal can be had for $80 at the Tru Restaurant, a six-course vegetarian meal is available for $90, of the seven-course grand collection for $100. If you want the “star treatment”, order the eight-course Chef Tramonto Collection for $135. To save money, arrive weekdays after 9:30pm, or Friday and Saturday after 10:30pm. For $25, you can try the five-course dessert collection of Gale Gand’s creation and completely forego the main meal. The Tru Restaurant in Chicago offers private rooms (a party room for up to 36 and a semi-private salon for 11), a notable wine list, valet parking, a chef’s table in the kitchen (seating six), and online reservations. Dress code calls for a jacket (tie is optional). If you are willing to open your wallet wide, the Tru Restaurant in Chicago is a great cultural experience for all. |
